A Short History of the IH 9000 High Lift Forklift Company--International Harvester

The IH 9000 high lift forklift is one of the flagship products of the company that is now known as Navistar International but was once called International Harvester (hence the "IH" in the name of the IH 9000 high lift forklift). International Harvester began life as a conglomerate of several small to medium size farm equipment, motor vehicle, and general purpose manufacturing companies such as McCormick Harvesting and Machine Company (founded by the famous Cyrus McCormick), the famous Deering Harvesting Company, along with several smaller agricultural and manufacturing companies.

International Harvester piqued public interest in its products with the release of its Titan class of tractors. Taking advantage of the motorized boom of the early twentieth century, International Harvester brought the industrial revolution to many small farming and agricultural operations. Whereas tractors, threshers, bailers, and other heavy pieces of farm machinery were primarily reserved for large corporate farming operations to that point, before long every farm had at least one tractor, and International Harvester was part of the reason for this boom.

While the early days of International Harvester, the company now operating as Navistar International to reflect the fact that much of its original operation has been divested to make way for more lucrative product lines, were dominated by small to mid scale farming machines such as the IH 9000 high lift forklift, today the company focuses on commercial vehicles (mostly trucks), bus chassis, and high end jet engine components.
